Etiquette

We want our milonga to be a safe and enjoyable space for everyone. In order to achieve this we require all attendees to behave towards each other in a courteous, considerate and respectful manner both on and off the dance floor. To this end we strongly encourage observance of the traditional códigos including the use of the mirarda/cabaceo for inviting others to dance.

We also ask that people demonstrate considerate floorcraft and observe the following points of etiquette for dancing in the ronda

Please Do

1. Enter the ronda safely without disturbing other couples’ dance. Try to get in eye contact with the approaching leader, to let them know that you would like to get into their line of dance.

2. Try to stay within your lane (avoid dancing between the lanes and switching lanes unnecessarily) and maintain a comfortable distance to the dancers in front of you.

3. If you do need to overtake somebody in front of you who is holding up the line of dance, do it on the left side and only when you have checked it is safe to do so. You may stay in that lane, or change back to the original lane after passing the "obstacle’’.

Additionally,

You should be mindful of the fact that the ronda is a shared social space, and not your own personal stage! Please dance in a way which is appropriate to the space available to you, and which is respectful of the safety and enjoyment of other dancers.

Please Do Not

1. Step backwards against the line of dance. The space behind you is NOT yours! It belongs to the dancers behind you!

2. Hold up the line of dance if there is enough space in front of you to move forward.

3. Weave your way around the floor, in and out of different lanes and other people’s line of dance, as if the whole floor belongs to you (it doesn’t!). This seriously disrupts the ronda. At worst, there is a real risk of you causing a collision!

 4. Get too close to the dancers in front of you! There should be enough space for them to be able to turn safely.

Aditionally,

You should avoid performing exaggerated, out of axis figures and keep boleos low, particularly on a busy floor.
